Chanel - Rouge Noir Absolument

We're not done yet with the holiday collections! I still have to show you some pretty great collections like Dior and Lancôme. But today I'm showing you a part of the Chanel Rouge Noir Absolument collection, which is actually the first ever Chanel collection on the blog by the way! Are you ready?

The whole collection is about "Rouge Noir", the cult color that was designed 20 years ago in 1995. Let's take a look back on the history of Chanel's famous Rouge Noir.

In May 1926 Gabrielle Chanel said in Vogue: “Black and white are joined by red, a garnet shade, like the heart of a black cherry, which Chanel uses frequently and which is often called ‘red-black’.”

She loved the mysterious dark color, but it wasn't until 1995 that an icon was born. During the runway show for the Autumn/Winter 1994 Ready-to-Wear collection, Le Vernis Rouge Noir colored the models’ nails in the busy backstage atmosphere and instantly caught all eyes. The shade was first called “Vamp” in the United States. It was an homage to the intense garnet colour that Coco favored. A mix between a fiery red and the deep simplicity of black.

And that takes us back to 2015, Le Vernis Rouge Noir celebrates its 20th anniversary. The 'it colour' No. 18 is now an iconic Chanel creation. Rouge Noir has claimed its place amongst the House icons, alongside quilting, tweed, beige and pearls. Quite an amazing history, right?

The Holiday 2015 Rouge Noir collection is pretty big, it exists out of 14 products. I got 3 of them to try out, and let's immediately start with the Chanel Le Volume mascara, in burgundy!

Le Volume de Chanel is one of my top 3 mascaras and my go-to everyday mascara. I love it for it's volume, length and how easy it comes off at night but stays on all day. One of the mascaras of the collection is "27 Rouge Noir", yes, a red-black mascara! On the lashes the effect is very subtle, it's less black than the normal, black version. But you don't really see the burgundy, it's absolutely wearable.

The Rouge Noir adventure all started with the nail polish. So of course, Le Vernis Rouge Noir was a must. It's a very, very dark red on the nails, but I absolutely love it. I needed a color like this, it suits every occasion or outfit.

There is also a very pretty top coat with gold shimmers. Very festive! I'm always a bit scared of glitter/sparkle nail polishes because they often disappoint. (You know, one stroke equals exactly two glitters.) Luckily this is not the case here, the top coat gives of the right amount of sparkle to your nails. This is my favorite out of all three I think. Festive and cheery yet chic and definitely not 'too much' for a sparkle top coat.

Chanel - Le Volume De Chanel in 27 Rouge Noir (€32)
Chanel - Le Vernis in 18 Rouge Noir (€23,50)
Chanel - Le Top Coat Lamé Rouge Noir (€24,50)

The Rouge Noir collection is beautiful, and I really like the nail polishes. The mascara is perfect for girls who are in an brown/black in-between situation. For light haired girls brown might be too less of color for the lashes, and black might be too heavy and dark. Stock up on Rouge Noir, because it's a perfect in-betweenie!

What do you think about the collection? Have you ever tried a Chanel nail polish or mascara?

Love, Rani
