Lipstick Queen Surprises

Lipstick Queen is a brand that has already surprised me with their products, but both of these lipsticks were a total and complete surprise when I tried them on. Presenting today: the Silver Screen and Velvet Rope lipsticks!

I admit, the packaging played a big part in ordering these lippies. That beautiful packaging just screamed 'shopping cart, shopping cart', and the fact that there were colors that I wear on a daily base didn't help, shopping cart it was! Velvet Rope is the gold one and Silver Screen the silver one. There is also a third black one available that looks very similar, it's called 'Let Them Eat Cake'.

Except for beautiful, the packaging is also amazing quality: very heavy, sturdy and it closes with magnets. What more do you need from a lipstick packaging?

Even the box is pretty, with that velvet fur and shiny details.

The color I got from the Velvet Rope is 'Black Tie', it's described as the deepest red.

Poppy King, the founder of Lipstick Queen says this about Velvet Rope:
"I was inspired by the golden years of Hollywood when glamour was in every detail. This is the lipstick of the red carpet, the people, the places and the personalities that glide past the Velvet Rope and into the night."

The pigmentation is a 10 and it literally glides over your lips. Even the satinest satin doesn't glide on like this one. (At first I even thought that I had left it in the sun or something.) It's super comfortable, it's even softer than a lip balm with the velvety texture that it has. The finish is more of a demi-matte, so this is definitely a good one for girls with dry lips who normally can't wear mattes without lip balm, scrubbing,... It's just so comfortable, I didn't expect that at all.

It also contains vitamin E and apricot oil (moisturizing and supple) and peppermint oil for a clean and subtle scent. And a few days ago I said in a review (from The Balm liquids) that I am not a fan of minty scents, but luckily it's not too intense.

I ordered these a while ago, and they just laid in my need-to-photograph-and-review-drawer and I totally forgot what kind of lipstick this was. Judging from the outside I really thought it was a matte, but when I made the swatches I was so surprised. This is definitely not a matte; it has a glossy, wet-look finish! I haven't got anything like this (and I never really saw one before in lipstick form?), that was probably the reason why I ordered it in the first place, but I totally forgot. So this was a nice surprise, something completely different.

What does Poppy say about this one?
"This intensely rich but wet formula, inspired by the slinky ladies of the silver screen, is a ground-breaking, industry-first. Silver Screen is a homage to Hollywood sassiness, if this lipstick could walk it would sashay. My most vixen lipstick to date!"

I went for the color 'Made It', a deep wine. It was so weird to wear this one, because I usually wear very dry mattes. Not a big lip gloss fan and this actually feels a bit like lip gloss, but without a sticky feeling. The only thing is that it's not super easy to get a flawless application. I would recommend using a lip brush with this one. On the lipswatch I used it straight from the bullet and from up close it might seem a bit messy and patchy. It works so much better with a lip brush.

These lipsticks are also scented with peppermint oil and contain vitamin E and A, and pomegranate extract to keep the lips glossy and hydrated.

Lipstick Queen - Velvet Rope in Black Tie (€42)
Lipstick Queen - Silver Screen in Made It (€42)

Two new lipsticks that took me by surprise. Silver Screen has a wet-look finish, which I have never tried before. The Velvet Rope is amazingly soft and light, but highly pigmented and even demi-matte. These are not the cheapest lipsticks, but Velvet Rope is one you might want to try if you're looking for a moisturizing (demi-)matte lipstick. And well, Silver Screen is just very special.

Have you seen wet-look lipsticks before?

Love, Rani
