The Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour Kit is one of the most used contour palettes by the beauty gurus. So I was very excited to try this pretty palette out!
And... I'm giving away one of these kits to one of you guys!
Contour kits are hot these days. Everyone is contouring and highlighting and thanks to palettes like these it isn't just for make-up artists and celebrities anymore.
There are numerous contouring videos on YouTube, so if you want to learn all about contouring, I suggest you watch some of those videos. Although many of them might exaggerate the proces (you know, the videos where girls have a brown and white striped cream face). I would recommend starting with powder (like this kit), and just try to contour and highlight the cheekbones.
About the packaging.
The palette looks fine to me, it's black and simple and has six colors. A plus is that you can easily remove the pans to place it in another palette, or to switch it with some other colors. The pans also have stickers with all the information like their names. Handy!
This kit contains three light shades and three darker shades. The lighter shades are meant to highlight and the brown shades to contour. (The swatches are a bit warmer, the colors are more like the photo of the kit.)
The light shades are Vanilla, Banana and Sand. Vanilla has a pink undertone, so I don't use that one too often. The Banana powder is great for highlighting places that shouldn't shimmer like your forehead, the nose, chin, under your contour on the cheekbones. I really like this powder, it's perfectly matte and so easy to work with. (Vanilla can be used in the same way.) Sand is an amazing highlighter. It has shimmers, so it's best if you use this one on the cheekbones to give it a nice glow. I really like this one, it's shimmery but still subtle.
The darker colors are named Java, Fawn and Havana. Fawn is the one I use the most because it has a grey undertone instead of an orange. This one I use on my cheekbones, I prefer grey undertones but Java is very pretty too. Java and Havana are warmer, but Havana is the warmest and I would use this one to bronze up the face. So a little on the forehead, a little at the end of the cheekbones.
On the mini and very grainy bad quality photo I have contoured my cheekbones very lightly, for a daily and wearable look. I used Sand to highlight, Fawn to draw the contour and Banana to light up the skin under the contour.
Anastasia Beverly Hills - Contour Kit in Light To Medium (€54,95 - available at anastasiashop.nl and Planet Parfum)
I hope you guys now know the beginner steps to highlighting and contouring and know what each powder does and how to use it. I would recommend this kit instead of the cream kit if you are a beginner, because you need some mad blending skills to properly work with the cream kit. If you would like to see a review on the cream kit, let me know in the comments!
