urban decay alice in wonderland palette 2016 review

The Urban Decay Alice In Wonderland, Alice Through The Looking Glass palette is the most stunning palette I have ever seen. Of course I had to get my hands on it and I photographed it as soon as I could to review and swatch it for you guys!

Packaging

A looooot of photos, only for the packaging. The packaging is (I have to be honest) the biggest reason why I bought it. I read some bad reviews online (I disagree), about the pigmentation for example - but I had to have it. I know that if I hadn't bought it, I would regret it afterwards. This palette is not available in my country (Belgium), so I ordered it online.

There was a previous Urban Decay x Disney collab which resulted in the Alice in Wonderland Book of Shadows, an iconic palette. I wasn't 'into' make-up back then, so I don't have it. This new, 2016 palette is inspired by the Alice Through The Looking Glass movie.

But let's talk about that packaging! The front features a colorful, kaleidoscopic artwork woven out of flowers and butterflies. When you open the palette, there is a mirror inside with the quote "We're all mad here". There also is a door with a golden quote on it that says "I'm not strange, weird, off, nor crazy, my reality is just different from yours." - if you open the door a three-dimensional blue butterfly pops up. This, packaging like this can make me so happy. I am a sucker for packaging, always have been. But there is also a little drawer underneath, again with a quote. This one says "I know who I was when I got up this morning, but I must have changed several times since then". If you pull out the drawer you see the 20 all-new shades and a pretty brush.

The colors

There are 20 new shades in this palette, every column stands for a character of the movie. From left to right: Alice, Mad hatter, Mirana (the White Queen), Iracebeth (the Red Queen) and Time (a creature who is part human, part clock). The shades in the column are build around that character and match each other. I personally like the colors, there are some 'mad' colors, but also a lot of everyday wearable colors. A palette with a lot of possibilities and with a good mix of different finishes.

Review & Look

I personally don't understand why there were a lot of negative reviews. I really doubted buying it because of those reviews, but the pigmentation is just like every Urban Decay palette really. There are some shades that are less pigmented: Gone Mad and Dream On. But all the others are just as pigmented as I'm used from Urban Decay. The only points I noticed is that some shades that should contain micro-sparkle are more of a metallic finish than satin with sparkle and the palette is hard to keep clean when you used it. It doesn't wipe off the fall out that easily. (And a magnetic closing for the drawer would have been nice, because I'm so scared that I will drop it.)

For the little look I used Heads Will Roll (what a lovely color this is!) and Cake. I went for a cut crease with a little bit of Cake on top. Simple, easy, a tad daring because of Heads Will Roll, but also very summery.

Urban Decay - Alice In Wonderland, Alice Through The Looking Glass 2016 eyeshadow palette (€60, LE)

This palette was definitely worth the money. If you compare it to other UD palettes, Vice for example, it's just €4 more expensive, but you get that gorgeous, limited edition packaging in return. Urban Decay: do some more Disney collabs please!

Love, Rani
